History of Khorkian's

If it were not for his ancestor's passions for producing ornate rugs, George Khorikian would not be managing this Armenian niche in West Harwich today.

Oriental rugs are more then just floor coverings, they are glorious pieces of artwork that provide deep connection to East cultures

Seven generations of Khorikian's family have cherished the rug-making craft, and George, as the seventh generation is currently managing store with nearly 4000 rugs of all shapes and sizes.

Georges grandfather's prowess at dyeing and designing these woven treasures allowed his relatives to avoid extinction in one of the most atrocious ethnic cleansings the world has ever seen. Grandfather Milan operated famous 50-loom Oriental rug workshop in Sivas, Armenia in early 1900s. Just three months before Armenian genocide made it's way to Sivas, Milran went to operate prosperious British operation, Oriental Carpets Manufacturers Co, in Iran. In a tragic twist of fate, Milan died after developing pneumonia as he went back to give his brethren aid in Armenia, which is unforgettable scar for Khorikian's family and their business. Besides all tragedies which occurred, over the next few decades, Khorikian's are still carving their way with the same tradition.
